Women are often more dependent on natural resources for their livelihoods, but face significant structural challenges when it comes to accessing these resources. This often results in women being relegated to marginal lands that are at risk of environmental degradation and various dangers. As degradation worsens, women are increasingly being pushed out of these lands, leading to the loss of their primary source of income and livelihood.
The network recognizes these gender issues and is working towards empowering women and increasing their agency in decisions about natural resources management. By doing so, the network aims to address the structural barriers that prevent women from accessing natural resources and promote gender equity in the management of these resources. The network's efforts are a step towards creating a more sustainable and equitable future, where women are empowered to play an active role in the management of natural resources and have access to the resources they need to support their livelihoods.
